The prayer as Jesus composed it
- The prayer that Jesus actually composed has interesting differences in some verses with respect to the current prayer. This is Jesus' version: 144:3
- * Our Father who is in heaven,
- * Hallowed be your name.
- * Your kingdom come; your will be done
- * On earth as it is in heaven.
- * Give us this day our bread for tomorrow;
- * Refresh our souls with the water of life.
- * And forgive us every one our debts
- * As we also have forgiven our debtors.
- * Save us in temptation, deliver us from evil,
- * And increasingly make us perfect like yourself.
- This is the current prayer, based on the gospels of Matthew and Luke, and ordered according to the previous:
- * Our Father, who art in heaven,
- * hallowed be thy name;
- * thy kingdom come, thy will be done
- * on earth as it is in heaven.
- * Give us this day our daily bread,
- * and forgive us our trespasses,
- * as we forgive those who trespass against us;
- * and lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil.
